 AIM:                      Explore and appreciate the contributions of women

                                To become familiar with the multi-media resources of our School Library Media Center

 

OBJECTIVE:       To create an acrostic poem containing significant facts about the women chosen

                                To create an annotated bibliography of sources

                                To write a critical thinking essay

 

STANDARDS:     Library Standard 1 – Access information efficiently & effectively

                                Library Standard 2 – Evaluate information critically & completely

                                Library Standard 3 – Use information effectively & creatively

                                Math/Sci/Tech 5- Technology: Use of internet and informational databases

 

SOURCES:

·         Nonfiction books

·         Encyclopedia in print format

·         Encyclopedia online

·         Information databases: Gale, Wilson’s Biography

·         Internet: Nettrekker

 

METHOD

·         Choose someone you are interested in learning more about.  See librarian for list of personalities.

(Individual project; no group work; two students many not choose same person)

 

·         Take notes and find significant facts with details

 

·         Transfer notes to acrostic poem format

·         Transcribe onto file folder as discussed in Library

·         Use one color for the lettering of person’s name

·         Write facts in blue or black ink only

·         Type an annotated bibliography and attach it to back of the file folder

·         Type a short essay (one paragraph  8-10 sentences) answering the following question:

 

Why was this person a role model and what professional contribution did she make to her field and/or to the advancement of women in general?
