The object of this WebQuest was to have the students look at the history of slavery in the United States in the light of the day and time in which it occurred. As such, the goals of this WebQuest,"The Faces of Slavery," have been accomplished. The students were able to explore the meaning and morality of the slavery question as viewed in American history until 1860.

The ability to become active learners in the process enabled the students to respond to the given tasks. This WebQuest was a collaborative effort involving not only Social Studies and Language Arts, but Music, Art, Library and Technology skills as well. As a result of this exposure, the seventh grade students were able to fully participate in the history of the times. They did not just study the past, but became people who lived in "that" present day.

The WebQuest successfully accomplished the goals set forth by the creators. The work presented successfully fulfilled New York State Standards in Language Arts, Social Studies, Art, Music and Technology. As an example:

Evaluation of primary source materials presented in the readings and in discerning constitutional law material satisfies Social Studies Standards for Civics, Citizenship and Government, as well as English/Language Arts Standards of Understanding, Literary Response, Expression, Critical Analysis and Evaluation. The seventh grade students' presentation of the lesson to the fifth grade incorporated standards in Art, Music, Technology, Language Skills for Social Interaction as well as Social Studies.

This WebQuest is still a work in progress. Opportunities are many that will enhance the program. For example, to include the creation of Document Based Questions by the students.
