FILAMENTALITY – STEP BY STEP

TO BEGIN A HOTLIST FOR THE FIRST TIME

1. Type in the URL for the site, go there, and bookmark it.

2. Scroll down. Look to the left and click "Return to Existing Topic". Go there.

And bookmark it.

Now you are ready to begin for the first time:

Go back to the first page by clicking the BACK BUTTON.

Now you are ready for this topic. Scroll down.

Click "Start a New Topic".

Type in the information requested: such as:

· What’s the topic’s name (keep it short- it will appear on your file name/URL)

· Enter your e-mail address; School’s internet address; Your personal school home page

· Type your name as you want it to appear on your finished product. (Always keep your name the same, e.g., Anna Stokes, Librarian

Type in a password for this topic. Each topic needs a different password. Perhaps you may want to use an abbreviated version of your topic. For instance if the topic is about "polar bears", use the first 4 letters of the topic "pola" as your password.

When you complete this form, click "SPIN THIS THING"

Basic Information for your web page will appear. Check it for accuracy; edit if necessary. Copy your name and password in a safe place or print out this page.

3. To organize our work, Click “HOTLIST.” Then customize your information. Fill in your title, introduction, and create the categories to organize your sites.

4. Now you are ready to "Add Links". Click on "Add Links"

Start to add the links you have already found.

Choose either Method #1 or 2
Method # 1:

· Type in the URL into the location box. Fill in text box with a description

Click HOTLIST ( Then Proceed to Step 4)
(This is not recommended when you URL address is long; margin for error is great)

Method #2:

Cut and paste the URL into the location box provided on the

Filamentality Page. (This is preferred way if URL is long.)

· You have already found the site/link and made a bookmark

· Go to that site

· Highlight its URL

· Go to Edit—Copy or CTRL+C

· Go back to Filamentality "Return to Existing Topic". Log in. (Simple way: hit back button)

· Click "Add Link"

· Click in the location box where you will paste the link.

· Go to Edit—Paste or CTRL+V and it will automatically paste the link in the box

(Remember to delete the http in the box since it is already part of your highlighted URL)

· Add the description

· Click HOTLIST

5. Now you can organize your links within the 5 categories you already identified. Click HOTLIST

TO EDIT A HOTLIST THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY CREATED.

Edit means to add additional sites, delete existing sites, or make corrections to existing sites.

Each time you add or edit a link you must go back into the Filamentality program and log in.

Go back to "Return to Existing Topic" link in your bookmarks. Click it.

Put in your name as it appears in your notes.

Put in your password as it appears in your notes.

Click "SPIN THIS THING"

Click “ADD” or “EDIT” – proceed as you did before.
